ROANEnet is delighted to announce the creation of ROANEnet IT Internships to be awarded to a limited number of Roane County, TN students interested in developing their technology skillsets.

The internships provide students with resume-quality technical skills and hands-on experience. 

These Job Experience internships will be made available to curious and energetic students passionate about gaining hands-on technology experience and who are available to intern with us during the 2021-2022 school year.

If you have a desire to grow both personally and professionally, learn and perfect new skills, solve all kinds of technical issues, and can do it with professionalism and a smile, this is the right opportunity for you.

COMPUTER NETWORKING TECHNOLOGY INTERNSHIP

Brad Taylor, owner of Taylor Telecom Solutions and a member of the ROANEnet Board of Directors, will be mentoring students in computer networking technology areas such as:

  • IP, VOIP, Wifi Access Points, Routers, Modems, Remote Access, Firewalls, and Desktop Security
  • Business skills including performing needs analysis, design, planning, scheduling, installation, technical support, and customer communication and training

The ideal candidate will have taken an introductory networking class, be customer service-oriented, and love working with people.

BENEFITS

  • Interns are paid a stipend of $500 each upon completion of the program requirements. (Interns do not receive health care, vacation, sick, retirement, or holiday benefits.)
  • After 24 hours of intern service, an intern will earn a new laptop computer to keep.
  • Gain practical real-world resume experience designed to give you the practical skills needed in today's technical job market.

DESKTOP SUPPORT INTERNSHIP

Richard Glover, ROANEnet CIO, will mentor students in basic Windows desktop support skills.

In this role, you should expect to gain skills such as:

  • Receive donated computers for refurbishment, diagnosis, upgrade computer operating system, and resolve hardware and software issues
  • Configure donated computers for reuse
  • Support recycling, or otherwise disposing of obsolete assets
  • Audit outgoing hardware donations to assure quality, accuracy, and adherence to SOP and research discrepancies
  • Help clean and maintain IT workspaces
  • Track donated computers and software through associated databases

The ideal candidate will be passionate about technology, driven to learn and enjoy troubleshooting challenging problems and customer service-oriented.

PROGRAM GOALS

This program will:

  • Develop intern’s abilities to communicate effectively and work independently or as a team member in a professional computer technology setting.
  • Provide students the opportunity to use computers, related equipment, and resources in a real-world setting.
  • Increase students’ knowledge of using hardware, software, and developing solutions and management tools.

DIGITAL MARKETING & CREATIVE MEDIA INTERNSHIP

Hugh Willett, ROANEnet Communications Director plus Dayle Beyer, Executive Director of ROANEnet will mentor students in the various areas related to digital communication. The Intern will work on translating complex information into a message that allows the intended audience to take the desired action.

In this role, you should expect to gain skills such as:

  • Develop content videos, blog post generation, newsletters,  advertisements, articles, press releases across a wide variety of channels (e.g. company website, social media, printed marketing collateral, newsletters, webinars, etc.)
  • Utilize various social media platforms to engage with followers online
  • Provide WordPress and Hubspot website updates and maintenance for specific events and programs 
  • Collaborate with team members and others to identify, develop and promote customer success stories

The ideal candidate will have taken an introductory MS Office training class, be tech-savvy, and love working with people.

ABOUT ROANEnet

ROANEnet is a Harriman, TN-based non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to expanding digital inclusion in East Tennessee. Along with partners in private and non-profit organizations, ROANEnet provides training and equipment to underserved communities through donations, grants, internships, and refurbishing of donated hardware.

The internships will be managed by ROANEnet’s Technology Academy.
